Finger Millet Junnu Recipe – Traditional Ragi Milk Sweet

Junnu is a traditional steamed dessert known for its soft, pudding-like texture and rich taste. This Finger Millet Junnu recipe adds a healthy twist by incorporating ragi (finger millet), making it more nutritious and wholesome.

Prepared using milk, jaggery, eggs, and aromatic spices like cardamom and pepper, this dish offers a perfect balance of sweetness and warmth. The steaming process preserves nutrients while giving it a soft, melt-in-the-mouth consistency. It is ideal for festive occasions, special desserts, or nutritious homemade treats.

Ingredients

  • Finger millet (ragi) flour – 30 g
  • Milk – 100 ml
  • Jaggery (grated) – 100 g
  • Eggs – 3
  • Pepper powder – 1 g
  • Cardamom powder – 2 g

Preparation Method

  1. In a blender jar, beat the eggs until smooth.
  2. Add grated jaggery, cardamom powder, pepper powder, and finger millet flour. Blend well until fully combined.
  3. Add milk to the mixture and blend again to get a smooth, lump-free consistency.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased pan or vessel.
  5. Place the pan in a steamer or pressure cooker (without whistle) and steam on medium flame for 20 minutes.
  6. Check doneness by inserting a spoon or knife—if it comes out clean, the junnu is cooked.
  7. Allow it to cool completely.
