Kodo Millet Curry Leaf Rice Recipe – Aromatic Millet Rice

Kodo Millet Curry Leaf Rice is a flavorful and wholesome dish prepared using kodo millet and a freshly ground curry leaf masala. This recipe replaces regular rice with millet, making it richer in fiber and easier to digest.

The earthy aroma of curry leaves combined with roasted spices and peanuts gives this dish a unique taste. It is ideal for everyday meals, lunch boxes, and light dinners.


Ingredients

  • Kodo millet rice – 100 g
  • Curry leaves – 4 small bunches
  • Red chillies – 4
  • Groundnuts – 20 g
  • Black gram dal – 5 g
  • Cumin seeds – 1 g
  • Asafoetida (hing) – a pinch
  • Turmeric powder – as required
  • Oil – 4–5 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Water – as required

Preparation Method

  1. Soak kodo millet in water for 30 minutes and set aside.
  2. Wash thoroughly and transfer to a vessel.
  3. Boil water and add millet in a 1:5 ratio. Cook for 20–25 minutes until soft.
  4. Spread the cooked millet on a plate and allow it to cool.
  5. Heat a pan and dry roast black gram dal, red chillies, groundnuts, and cumin until golden brown.
  6. Add curry leaves and roast for a few minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  7. Grind the roasted mixture into a coarse powder.
  8. Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, hing, and turmeric powder.
  9. Add peanuts and sauté briefly.
  10. Add the cooked millet and mix well.
  11. Add the prepared curry leaf powder and cook for 2 minutes.
  12. Mix thoroughly and serve hot.
