Millet Idli Recipe – Soft & Healthy South Indian Breakfast
Millet Idli is a wholesome variation of traditional idli, made by replacing rice with multi millet rawa. This healthy breakfast is light, easy to digest, and packed with essential nutrients.

Prepared using fermented batter of urad dal (black gram) and millet rawa, these idlis are soft, fluffy, and naturally probiotic. They are perfect for weight management, diabetes-friendly diets, and overall wellness.

Ingredients

  • Black gram dal (urad dal) – 1 cup

  • Multi millet rawa – 2 cups

  • Salt – to taste

  • Water – as required

  • Oil or ghee – for greasing

Preparation Method

  1. Soak the black gram dal in water for 5–6 hours.

  2. Wash it thoroughly and grind into a smooth, fluffy batter using water as required.

  3. In a separate bowl, wash the multi millet rawa and soak it for 30 minutes.

  4. Take a large bowl and mix the urad dal batter with the soaked millet rawa.

  5. Cover the mixture with a lid and allow it to ferment overnight.

  6. The next day, mix the batter gently and add salt to taste.

  7. Grease the idli moulds with oil or ghee.

  8. Pour the batter into the moulds.

  9. Steam the idlis for 15–20 minutes or until cooked.

  10. Remove from moulds and serve hot.
